Beijing to cut car pollution by 25% in 2017, website says

Beijing plans to cut pollution from cars by a quarter in 2017, Chinanews.com reported late Tuesday, citing the capital’s new vehicle emissions control plan. The number of cars on the city’s roads will be capped at 6 million, with 52 percent of trips in urban areas to be made on public transport, the report said. The city also intends to promote use of renewable energy vehicles, with the aims of having 200,000 clean-energy cars in the city in 2017.
