Govt set to revamp energy sector, paper says

The central government is planning to overhaul the energy sector to eliminate monopolies and accelerate opening up of the industry, the China Securities Journal reported Wednesday, citing a reform plan published by a national research center. According to the plan, which may be an important part of the full-scale reforms to be determined at the Communist Party’s Central Committee plenum next month, oil and gas businesses as well as storage facilities may be opened to private investment, and more imports of finished oil products and natural gas will be allowed in. In the long term, oil companies are expected to sever links with pipeline businesses and several pipeline network management firms formed, the report said.
