Hainan to unlock backlog of idle land, paper says

About 19,100 hectares in Hainan province is laying idle, with about 45 percent of the land, or 8,700 hectares, approved for development, China Business News reported Wednesday, quoting Hainan governor Jiang Dingzhi as saying. The development-approved area is equivalent to the the amount of land sold by the provincial government in two years. But from Nov. 1, the Hainan authorities will confiscate land that developers have not touched in two years or more.
