China has agreed to pursue talks with Taiwan on the latter’s proposal to allow cross-strait prison visits, Want Daily reported on Thursday, citing Fan Liqing, a spokesperson of the State Council’s Taiwan Affairs Office. Wang Yuqi , chairman of the island’s Mainland Affairs Council, called on Beijing to accept the proposal as way of showing mutual political trust. Fan said the mainland-based Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits has been coordinating with Taipei’s Straits Exchange Foundation in processing requests from Taiwanese to visit their family members in mainland prisons, the report said. Taipei is also proposing that both sides set up government offices on each other’s territory to facilitate the prison visits, it added.
