Cabinet could approve more free trade zones anytime, paper says

The Development Research Center of the State Council said there is no specific timeline for the approval of free trade zones, and that the cabinet will grant the approval once a candidate city fulfills the requirements, the China Business News reported Thursday, citing Long Guoqiang, a researcher with the center. Long said the approval of other free trade zones will not depend on the progress of the Shanghai free trade zone, and that the zones should be complementing, rather than competing against, each other. Meanwhile, Guangdong province has reportedly applied to set up a Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau free trade zone in the province and obtained an in-principle approval, the 21st Century Business Herald reported.
