China’s television watchdog has told satellite channels across the country to limit air time for infomercials from next year, China Daily reported late Wednesday, citing a Xinhua report. Satellite TV channels are limited to broadcasting the advertisements once per hour and for no more than three minutes at a time, according to a notice from the State General Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television. The same ad should be aired no more than three times per day, and infomercials will be banned between 6pm to midnight, the report said. The ads should not promote breast firming or slimming products, and TV channels must display the Chinese characters “guang gao,” or ad, on the top right corner of the screen when an infomercial is broadcast, it said.
