China halts edible oil imports from Taiwan firms, paper says

China has suspended the importation of edible oil from certain Taiwanese makers that were accused of using a banned coloring agent and adding cheaper oil into higher-priced products, Want Daily reported Thursday, citing Fan Liqing, a spokesperson of the State Council’s Taiwan Affairs Office. Authorities in Fujian and Zhejiang provinces have called for the recall of more than 40 metric tons of such products imported from the island after the scandal broke out in Taiwan media, the report said. Fan also asked Taiwan to attend to the issue based on a cross-strait agreement on food safety, it said.
