Tiananmen crash labeled a terrorist attack, govt says

The vehicle crash in front of the Tiananmen rostrum on Monday, in which five people were killed and about 40 others were injured, was a violent terrorist attack which was “carefully planned and organized”, police authorities said in a statement late Wednesday on its microblog. Five others have been arrested for allegedly helping plan the operation. The three people in the vehicle and the five alleged accomplices had typical names from the Muslim Uygur minority in the Xinjiang region. Police said they recovered a container for petrol, two knives and a flag with “extremist religious slogans” inside the vehicle.
