Growth in China’s CO2 output slows, FT says

The growth in China’s emissions of carbon dioxide slowed last year to 3 percent, below the annual increases of 10 per cent over the past decade, the Financial Times reported Thursday, citing a study by the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency and the European Commission’s Joint Research Center. China is the world’s biggest emitter of carbon dioxide, the major man-made greenhouse gas blamed for climate change, the report said. The slower growth came as an economic stimulus package aimed at avoiding a slowdown in the global recession ended, and as China used more renewable power and boosted energy efficiency, the report said.
