Material imports from China threaten S Korea sector, Yonhap says

South Korea’s material and component industry is facing a growing threat from imports from China, Yonhap news agency reported Sunday, citing a Korea International Trade Association report. Imports of materials and components from China have grown to 26.8 percent of the country’s total importation of such items this year from 23.8 percent in 2007, surpassing such shipments from Japan, which has been exporting to South Korea more than importing from the nation. The report also cited the rising competitiveness of Chinese-made information technology components.
