8 EIA agencies lose licenses on irregularities, govt says

Eight environmental impact assessment (EIA) agencies had their licenses canceled after they were found to have committed serious violations of regulations, including providing false documents and obtaining qualifications by deception, the Ministry of Environmental Protection said in a circular posted on its website late Monday. A total of 34 EIA agencies and 58 EIA specialists have been punished because of irregularities, the circular said. Some of the agencies and specialists could face criminal charges, the 21st Century Business Herald reported Tuesday, citing people with knowledge of the matter.
