Rural land program gets 30% more central funds, Xinhua says

The Ministry of Finance said Monday that 30 billion yuan (US$4.92 billion) has been allocated from the central finance pool for rural land maintenance and prevention of disasters this year, representing an increase of about 30 percent from 2012, the official Xinhua news agency reported Monday. Eighty-five percent of the funds, or 25.5 billion yuan, were allocated for major food-producing regions. The ministry also revealed that the central government has also allocated 4.108 billion yuan to support major land projects in the border regions of the Yunnan province and the Yili River Valley in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, the report said.
