Chinese business-to-consumer e-commerce site JD.com, previously known as 360buy.com, will open its seventh distribution hub in Xi’an next year, a senior manager said Thursday.
“One of the reasons that JD.com can stand out from other competitors is its timely delivery,” Shi Tao, vice president of JD.com’s retail business and general manager of its global business, told a logistics forum in Hong Kong.
“We are doing better than third-party delivery companies because our shipping costs are 40 percent lower and more than 90 percent of our packages can be delivered on time, compared with 75 percent for third-party ones.”
Besides the seven delivery stations, JD.com has 32 warehouses together covering 1 million square meters, and six regional centers, Shi told the forum.
The company launched its internet finance business early this year with an eye to future growth. “We have set up a third-party payment system called chinabank.com.cn, which is JD’s Alipay,” he said, without elaborating.
