China’s electricity consumption is expected to grow between 6.5 percent and 7.5 percent in the fourth quarter, down from 10.9 percent in the previous three months, the official Xinhua news agency reported Thursday, citing the China Electricity Council. Annual growth is forecast at 7 percent and power generation capacity is expected to reach 1.23 billion kilowatts by the end of the year. About 30 percent of capacity will come from renewable energy sources, the report said. China is on course to overtake the United States as the world’s largest energy consumer.
