Taiwan Oct exports down 1.5% at US$26.1 bln, statement says

Taiwan’s exports in October dropped 1.5 percent to US$26.12 billion from a year earlier, the second monthly dip in a row, the island’s finance ministry said in a statement on Thursday. Yeh Maan-tzwu, director general of the ministry’s department of statistics, said the decline was partly due to a slowdown in the shipment of flat panels and other optical equipment to mainland China, which accounts for 80 percent of such exports. For the first 10 months of the year, exports grew 1 percent to US$252.75 billion from a year ago, the official data showed.
