Alibaba aims to double Singles Day sales, Caijing says

E-commerce giant Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. aims to double sales at its online malls on Nov. 11, Singles Day, a gift-giving occasion celebrating unmarried life among young Chinese, news website Caijing.com reported on Sunday, citing an unnamed person with knowledge of the matter. Last year’s Singles Day sales hit a record high of 19.1 billion yuan (US$3.13 billion), four times that of 2011, and the company targets sales of 38.2 billion yuan this year, the report said.
