Beijing sees a rush for new car license plates, paper says

Beijing has seen 110,000 more people lodge applications for new car license plates this month, rushing in before an expected cut in the monthly car license plates granted under the city’s lottery system, Beijing Morning Post reported Monday, citing the municipal transportation authority. As of the end of Friday, the lottery pool had accumulated 1.78 million applications. However, only 20,000 will win new license places for the month. Beijing is seeking to reduce the number of new cars on the road as part of the city’s efforts to curb air pollution.
