Supporters of fallen political star Bo Xilai, who is serving a life imprisonment term for corruption, have set up a political party in a direct challenge to the ruling Communist Party’s de facto ban on new political groups, Reuters reported over the weekend. The Zhi Xian Party, literally “the constitution is the supreme authority” party, was formed on Nov. 6, three days before the opening on Saturday of the four-day plenum of top Communist Party leaders to discuss economic reforms, the report said. The group named Bo “chairman for life”, Wang Zheng, one of the party’s founders and an associate professor of international trade at the Beijing Institute of Economics and Management, was quoted as saying. Wang insisted that the party’s establishment is not illegal under Chinese law. According to a party document seen by Reuters, it was formed because it fully agrees with Bo’s “common prosperity” policy.
