Toyota eyes more sales in China with big R&D center, paper says

Toyota Motor Corporation’s decision to build its largest overseas research center in Changshu, a county-level city in China’s eastern Jiangsu province, was prompted by the desire to provide more satisfying products for Chinese consumers, China Economic Times reported Tuesday, citing Japanese auto giant’s chairman Takeshi Uchiyamada. The top executive said he hopes Chinese consumers will buy more products from Toyota in the coming years. He said there are two major missions for the Changshu research center: one is to develop products more suitable for the Chinese market and the other is to realize local production of components required for hybrid cars through joint efforts with Chinese suppliers.
