China’s virtual mobile operators program has hit a snag after it was found that at least nine of the proposed participants were on both lists submitted by China Telecom Corp. Ltd. (00728.HK) and China United Network Communications Group Co. Ltd. (China Unicom) (00762.HK, 600050.CN), Sina Technology website reported Tuesday, citing unidentified sources. The discovery may delay the launch of the pilot scheme, which allows companies to lease the networks of the nation’s three mobile telecommunication giants and provide telecom services to customers. China Unicom had earlier insisted that its virtual mobile operators cannot cooperate with the other telecom carriers, the sources were quoted as saying. As a result, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will not be able to launch the scheme until the list of participants is finalized. Also, China Mobile Ltd. (00941.HK) has yet to file its own list of virtual mobile operators, the report said.
