China distributor seeks damages from Taiwan firm, Xinhua says

A Taiwanese lawyer, Tsai Wen-bin, has been hired by a mainland distributor to seek financial compensation from Taiwan-based edible oil maker Chang Chi Foodstuff Factory Co. Ltd., which was found earlier by Taiwan authorities to have sold adulterated oil products, Xinhua news agency reported Tuesday, citing unidentified sources. The plaintiff firm, which distributed several edible oil products made by Chang Chi, has sought compensation worth more than NT$5 million (US$168,930), the report said. According to the lawyer, the distributor had purchased products worth more than NT$10 million from Chang Chi but suffered loss after having been told by mainland authorities to recycle the products, the report added.
