Japan’s ex-PM Koizumi defends visits to war shrine, Kyodo says

Japan’s former prime minister Junichiro Koizumi said in a speech Tuesday that it is reasonable for a nation’s head to worship the former leaders who died during wars, Kyodo news agency reported. He noted that China and South Korea are the only two countries in the world that have been protesting against any visits by Japanese prime ministers to the Yasukuni war shrine. Meanwhile, Koizumi said there is no need for Japan to change its position on the territorial dispute with China, and that he feels the Japanese government is handling the issue properly.
