‘Competition needed’ to break CRC’s rail lock, paper says

China’s rail sector should be opened up to competition to break China Railway Corporation’s (CRC) monopoly, the 21st Century Business Herald reported Thursday, citing Li Kun, an official from the National Development and Reform Commission. Railway services will improve only when there is a competitive environment, Li said, suggesting that overseas and private players be let into the field. Li also suggested that CRC be split up into several firms to compete with each other.
