China shale gas output may overshoot 2015 target, paper says

China’s annual shale gas output may surpass the target of 6.5 billion cubic meters set for 2015 as major shale gas exploration and development projects are progressing smoothly, Shanghai Securities News reported Monday, citing a national land authority official. At present, the nation’s shale gas output is nearly 1.5 million cubic meters a year. PetroChina Co. Ltd. (00857.HK, 601857.CN) plans to increase its shale gas output to 2.5 billion cubic meters by 2015, while China Petroleum & Chemical Corp. (Sinopec) (00386.HK, 600028.CN) is aiming for 5 billion cubic meters, the report said.
