CNPC fined for soil damage at Changqing oilfield, report says

China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) was handed a fine of 110 million yuan (US$18.05 million) for causing soil loss between 2009 and 2012 at its Changqing oilfield in the Ordos Basin in the northwest Shaanxi province, and was also asked to pay 740 million yuan as compensation, China National Radio reported on Sunday. In Shaanxi, all coal, petroleum and natural gas enterprises have to pay a monthly compensation fee for soil loss, ranging from 30 yuan a ton for crude oil to 0.008 yuan per cubic meter for natural gas, the report said.
