Japan officials see China softening bilateral stance, Kyodo says

A growing number of Japanese officials think China is softening its stance toward bilateral relations, Kyodo news agency reported Sunday, citing an unnamed government source. Chinese President Xi Jinping {習近平} signaled in a speech in late October that China will promote friendly relations with neighboring countries and the message might have been aimed at Japan, the report said. An unnamed official in Japan’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs was quoted as saying Tokyo will watch closely if China will put words into action, the report said.
