Gaming tycoon Stanley Ho’s casino flagship is backing a move by the Macau government to require foreign casino operators to promote more locals into high-paying management jobs, the South China Morning Post reported Tuesday. Sociedade de Jogos de Macau Holdings, Macau’s only homegrown casino corporation, said the people of the former Portuguese enclave have reached a point where they need more upward mobility, the report said, quoting executive director Angela Leong. With license renewal talks for foreign operators expected to start in two years, Macau Chief Executive Fernando Chui pledged in his policy address last week to ensure more Macau people get management jobs. The move was prompted in part by locals’ discontent over the pay disparity with foreigners who occupy mostly senior positions.
