Northwest China’s Xinjiang region is expected to have installed wind power capacity of 20 million kilowatts by 2015, up from three million KW, 21st Century Business Herald reported Wednesday, citing Wei Chunli, general manager of the regional unit of Longyuan Power Group Corp. (00916.HK). Power demand in Xinjiang has been rising in recent years, with annual growth at 30-40 percent, creating an opening for wind power providers, Wei was quoted as saying. Xinjiang will increase wind power exports in coming years after upgrading its grid network, the report said. Longyuan Power, which acounts for 25 percent of Xinjiang’s wind power market, is expected to have more than one million KW of capacity by the end of the year, up from 744,300 at end-2012.
