BYD Co. Ltd.’s (01211.HK) automobile sales volume grew 20 percent in the 10 months to October from a year earlier, the Shenzhen-based carmaker said in a press release on Friday, without providing exact figures.
The company said it will start selling its latest hybrid car model Qin next month, following its debut on a seven-day car show in Guangzhou which started Friday.
The twin-engine vehicle can run in pure electric mode for short-distance travel, meeting the needs of motorists who drive between home and office daily, the statement said. For long-distance travel, it can shift to its hybrid engine.
The double-engine model will be a new trend for Chinese consumers, it said.
In the car show, the company also unveiled its high-end sport utility vehicle called S7. The model has applied BYD’s latest technology to filter the emission of PM2.5 or particulate matter 2.5 micrometers in diameter or smaller, the statement said.
Mainland media reported the S7 will start selling in 2014.
