No plan to expand pilot property tax, paper says

The central government has no immediate plan to expand the property tax pilot scheme to more cities, the Beijing Times reported Sunday, citing an official from the State Administration of Taxation’s property tax reform team. The official’s comments came after media reports said the scheme will be extended to four more cities, including Guangzhou and Shenzhen. China launched the tax in Shanghai and Chongqing in 2011 to help rein in rising property prices.
