Telecom equipment maker ZTE Corp. plans to launch a smartwatch in the second quarter of next year, the Wall Street Journal reported Monday, citing Lu Qianhao, head of the company’s handset marketing strategy. Lu said the smartwatch’s technological features will be similar to those on existing products such as the Galaxy Gear, but will sell for less, the report said. ZTE will first sell its smartwatch only in China, but the company wants to gradually enter the United States and European markets, Lu was quoted as saying. The as-yet-unnamed smartwatch will only be compatible with ZTE’s smartphones, the report said.
