Non-cash payment transactions in the third quarter rose 25.87 percent to 412.89 trillion yuan (US$67.7635 trillion) from a year earlier, Xinhua news agency reported Tuesday, citing data from the People’s Bank of China. In terms of volume, bank card transactions grew 20.49 percent to 12.83 billion, the central bank said. At the end of the September, bank cards issued rose 16.65 percent to 3.97 billion. The growth rate is 4.55 percentage points lower than a year ago and 2.21 percentage points down from the second quarter. Bank card transactions reached 6,097.02 yuan on average per person in the third quarter, up 46.85 percent year on year. Chinese people hold an average of 2.92 bank cards and 0.28 credit card per person, the report said.
