Taiwan to maintain tight grip on Chinese investment, CNA says

Taiwan is making sure that mainland Chinese investments in the island are confined only to the sectors that do not have a bearing on Taiwan’s security or pose a risk to its financial stability, the Central News Agency reported Tuesday, citing a senior official from Taiwan’s Council for Economic Planning and Development. Wu Ming-huei, deputy director of the council’s Department of Sectoral Planning, was quoted as saying that measures approved recently on mainland investment still require review on types of projects and the investment amount. In addition, she said that relaxed rules on mainlanders’ entry into Taiwan are only aimed at making it easier for them to make business trips, rather than suggesting that the mainlanders are getting the same treatment as all other foreigners.
