European and Chinese officials confirmed they will launch their first round of investment treaty talks early next year, China Daily reported Thursday. An unnamed Chinese diplomat said the negotiations will start by “about January or February,” but specific dates had not been set, the report said. Joao Aguiar Machado, deputy director general at the European Commission Directorate General for Trade, said the two parties had drafted a timetable for the first round of the long-awaited talks. But neither side would say what would be discussed or how many rounds would be held next year, the report said.
