EU to simplify patent process for China firms, Xinhua says

The European Union is hammering out a new system to streamline processing of patent applications from Chinese firms, Xinhua reported Wednesday, citing Europe Patent Office (EPO) president Benoît Battistelli. Battistelli said China has made major strides in intellectual property in recent years, with Chinese firms such as Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. and ZTE Corporation (00763.HK, 000063.CN) making their presence felt in patent applications overseas. According to EPO data released in March, ZTE became the first Chinese firm to be among the top 10 patent applicants in Europe with 1,184 patent submissions, the report said.
