Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Shanghai topped Forbes’ list of the 100 most commercially competitive mainland cities this year, the Chinese edition of Forbes magazine reported Wednesday. Guangzhou excelled with its relatively low business operating costs and its advantages in cargo and passenger transport, according to the magazine’s survey of factors ranging from city scale to innovation. Shenzhen moved one place up from last year’s third spot with progress in human resources. Meanwhile, Shanghai slumped to third from last year’s top spot, dragged down by a fall in private business activity and freight. More cities from the Yangtze River and Pearl River deltas made the list compared with last year, the report said.
