S Korea island sees sharp fall in Chinese tourists, Yonhap says

The number of Chinese visitors to South Korea’s Jeju island has fallen sharply since China implemented a new tourism law, Yonhap news agency reported Wednesday, citing data from the Bank of Korea. The new law, which took effect on Oct. 1, bars travel agents from offering discounted package tours that take tourists to specific shops. The number of Chinese tourists to the island in October dropped 59 percent to 142,000 from August, and only 30,000 were recorded in the first 12 days of November, the report said.
