Sweden’s Hennes & Mauritz AB temporarily halted production of items containing Angora wool after animal-rights activists distributed a video over the summer that showed allegedly inhumane treatment of rabbits on unidentified farms in China, the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday. The video, created by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, showed hair being torn or plucked from Angora rabbits appearing to be in agony, the report said. Some Angora farmers say plucking is the best way to get the most desirable fiber but others maintain that it can be harvested by plucking without harming the animal. China produces much of the world’s supply of Angora, the report said.
