US expects carriers to submit China flight plans, Caixin says

The United States expects its airlines to submit their flight plans to Chinese authorities when flying through China’s newly established air defense identification zone over the East China Sea, but that does not mean the US government accepts Beijing’s requirement, news website Caixin.com reported Sunday, citing a statement issued by US State Department on Friday. The statement also reiterated Washington’s deep concern over the zone and stressed that legal use of international marine and air space is important to prosperity and stability in the Pacific region. A report by Reuters on Saturday said the three major US airlines, including Delta Air Lines, American Airlines and United Airlines, have followed the Chinese request on the flight plans.
