China no longer top investment choice of Japan firms, paper says

China, which had been the top investment choice for Japanese firms since 1992, has seen its rank slide to the fourth place this year while Indonesia moved up to the first position from the third last year, Global Times reported Monday, citing a survey carried out by the Japan Bank for International Cooperation. Among the 625 firms that responded to the survey, only 37.5 percent chose China as their top destination for business expansion over the next three years, down from 62.1 percent in a similar survey last year. Main reasons for the decline may include rising labor costs in China and worsened Sino-Japanese relations, the report said.
