CNPC sued over pollution at Jilin oilfield, HKEJ says

The All-China Environment Federation is said to have filed a lawsuit against China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) and its Jilin oilfield subsidiary for improper discharge of waste water, the Hong Kong Economic Journal reported Monday. In a case filed at the Beijing Municipal No.2 Intermediate People’s Court, the non-profit social organization has sought civil compensation of 60.75 million yuan (US$9.97 million) from the oil giant for environment restoration, the report said. The Jilin subsidiary has been accused of discharging waste water directly without treatment and poisoning the local groundwater and farmland.
