Hong Kong confirms first H7N9 bird flu case, SCMP says

Hong Kong has confirmed its first case of H7N9 bird flu infection, the South China Morning Post reported Tuesday. Authorities activated a contingency plan Monday after an Indonesian domestic worker, who recently traveled to Shenzhen, was found to have contracted the deadly new strain. The 36-year-old is in critical condition in a hospital with severe pneumonia and breathing with the help of an artificial lung. The live-in helper works for a couple with two children. All four are said to have minor flu symptoms and are under quarantine, the report said.
