China boosts support for Africa cotton producers, Xinhua says

China will expand a cooperation program with four major African cotton-producing countries, also known as C4, Xinhua news agency reported Tuesday, citing trade officials attending the ongoing 9th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization in Bali, Indonesia. China will step up efforts to boost the capacity of the C4 countries — Bening, Burkina Faso, Chad and Mali — in production, processing and logistics cooperation, Chinese Minister of Commerce Gao Hucheng was quoted as saying at a press briefing. The cooperation program, which started in 2011, aims to boost cotton production in the C4 countries, which account for 15 percent of the world’s cotton exports.
