China is planning high-level free trade agreements (FTAs) while pledging support for the multilateral trade system under the World Trade Organization, China Daily reported Wednesday, citing trade officials. The mainland has a platform of free trade agreements with neighboring regions and trade networks on other continents, Yao Jian, a spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce, was quoted as saying. Under wide-ranging reform announced in November, China vowed to speed up its FTA strategy with neighboring economies and develop a global, high-quality FTA network. The strategy covers trade in goods and services as well as investment, the report said.
