Several government departments have jointly submitted proposals to relevant authorities to improve the country’s ecology, the China Securities Journal reported Friday, citing unidentified sources. One of the proposals is to establish up to 100 ecological demonstration zones nationwide, which will serve as models for environmental protection and sustainable development, the report said. Such zones will become the focus of investment after the free trade zones and will benefit firms in the “green” industries, analysts were quoted as saying. The Ministry of Environmental Protection said in a notice in May that some 30 indicators will be applied to such firms as part of the process to determine those qualified to receive state subsidies, according to the newspaper.
