Japan eyes pollution hazard pay for Beijing staff, Kyodo says

Japan plans to raise the allowance of staff at its embassy in Beijing amid the worsening air pollution in the capital city, Kyodo news agency reported Thursday, citing an unnamed Japanese foreign ministry official. The foreign ministry is discussing the proposal with finance ministry officials to finalize the amount. The allowances will be classified into nine categories, with the amount depending on the degree of air pollution hazard faced by the staff, the report said.
