The government has discovered more than expected volume of shale gas in certain areas, the National Energy Administration (NEA) said in a statement on its website late Thursday. China Petroleum & Chemical Corp.’s (Sinopec) (00386.HK, 600028.CN) wells in Fuling, in Chongqing, have so far produced nearly 73 million cubic meters of commercial shale gas with each well reporting an average daily output of 150,000 cubic meters, the NEA said. Meanwhile, the three southwestern shale gas production bases under PetroChina Co. Ltd. (00857.HK, 601857.CN) have reported a commercial shale gas output of 70 million cubic meters, the statement said. The agency did not give initial estimates of shale gas volume in those fields.
