Survey to show farmland supply above requirement, paper says

A national land survey conducted in 2007-2009 is expected to show that China’s agricultural land is larger than the minimum required level, the 21st Century Business Herald reported Friday, citing a source at the Ministry of Land and Resources. The survey, which is set to be published soon, may show that the area devoted to farming was 2 billion mu (133.32 million hectares), more than the minimum area set for the purpose by the government for 2020, the source was quoted as saying. Meanwhile, the ministry is proposing new land reform measures, including those on ownership, expropriation and market, the report said.
