Jiangsu’s big polluters told to quit or cut back, paper says

Local governments have ordered shutdowns and cutbacks since Thursday at a number of heavy-industry firms based in Nanjing, Changzhou and several other cities in Jiangsu province, National Business Daily reported Monday, citing measures published by the authorities. The firms have been partly blamed for persistent high levels of smog blanketing the province. The official Air Quality Index reflected readings in the most severely polluted range in Shanghai, Nanjing, Wuxi and Suzhou Friday, the report said.
