Cross-strait goods trade negotiations mostly done, report says

Negotiations on two-thirds of the proposed clauses in the cross-strait goods trade agreement have been completed, Taiwan’s Economic Daily News reported Tuesday, citing the island’s Ministry of Economic Affairs. Authorities aim to cover under the pact goods accounting for at least 90 percent of the total cross-strait trade value, the report said. Cho Shih-chao, vice minister of Taiwan’s economic affairs ministry, was quoted as saying after the fifth regular meeting of the Cross-Strait Economic Cooperation Committee in Taipei Tuesday that more time is needed for further negotiations as both sides still hold different positions on a number of goods.
